Andrew Hunter speaks before Aliso Viejo city council in support of Green Initiative

The city planners for the city of Aliso Viejo, California, have been working for months on their Green Initiative. This idea behind this initiative is to change the develop the city with a much stronger emphasis on the environment and energy. I’ve attended some of the planning meetings and have learned much. What is great is that they really have reached out to the community, including my high school, for its input and support. They have also brought in several consulting experts. My conclusion is that they are extremely committed to the effort. What you don’t see behind me is the many IEA members, ANHS energy club members, and our teacher advisor who all to this meeting to show their support for this initiative. The result was that the council voted in favor of moving forward with this initiative.

Since then, IEA has decided to work collaboratively with the city, and I am interning for the city this summer. Several IEA members and I traveled to Shanghai, China, in June to participate in an environment energy study in which Tongji university, HPP architects, and Energy Design incorporated discussion of Aliso Viejo’s ideas.

Present at the meeting were Mr. Mosier (physics teacher ANHS), Jiarui Zhou (JSerra energy club president, IEA key member), Vincent Li (IEA member), Haven Yang (JSerra energy club officer, IEA key member), Jinyang Chen (IEA member), Chaz Dotson (Jserra energy club member, IEA key member), Josh Himley (ANHS energy club secretary, IEA key member)

Thank you to all those who attended this meeting!!

I am in my second year of a five year combination BS physics/math and MS systems engineering program offered jointly through Haverford College and UPenn. Helping my community is a lot of fun and means a great deal to me. Through the IEA and other efforts, I've come to learn how much power many can have when there is a clear positive vision, motivation and momentum.
